The Yamazakura Distillery shut down in 1998, after being merged into Sasanokowa Shozu company which is based in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture and now only produces shochu.
This whisky is aged in casks for its first 15 years, then subsequently moved to tanks. Finally, it was moved back to casks again to finish its maturation, resulting in this wonderful whisky. This pure malt has been bottled at cask strength and has a Sherry Wood Finish.
Extremely limited production, rumoured to be less than 30 bottles.
Nose: Fresh oak, honey, herbs, mint, grapes, burnt caramel.
Palate: Sherry notes, shortbread, meringue, apple pie, light spices, malty.
Finish: Medium to long. Bittersweet aftertaste.
