Kavalan is a whisky from the Taiwanese King Car Group, located at the cross boundary of Yi-Lan Mountain and the sea. When the Pacific Ocean mist and the Snowy Mountain wind interact, the air circulating outside around of the casks will allow even better effects of “wood breathing” function. The “deeply asleep” whisky inside the casks will absorb the natural scents from the interactions of mountain and water, therefore breeding the rich and charming tastes of King Car whiskies. King Car produces the finest quality spirit from the unique water source which Yi-Lan possesses. It is calling out to the world with its world class quality and its unique Taiwanese style. With high temperatures and high humidity, they are dealing with a fast forward maturation. The Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique was matured in American oak casks, first charred, then air-dried for two years, seasoned with European red and white wine casks, then re-charred, and eventually filled with spirit. It is around 4 years old at its youngest.

Nose: Cinnamon and some glue. Lots of sandalwood, with plums, cherries and dates added to the mix. Also some cane sugar, orange, vanilla, honey and raisins.

Palate: Punchy. Nice fruitiness initially and evolving into blackberries and black cherries with time, spices, leather toasted walnuts. With the intense alcohol level, water is needed to make it rounder while it opens out more of its flavours.

Finish: Long finish, sweet and spicy. Drying on dark chocolate.
